I always found it interesting that the last line of this song, “‘til I find somebody new” can barely be heard on the album, but is plain as day in the video.

Please make music again, Mr. Rice.

ps. Lisa Hannigan seems to be hanging out with Glen Hansard all the time and if she takes the music outta him too, I’mma be mad.

signal boostin’ this lovely song

All of the girls out with their hips asway
And I’m the loneliest man
They’re selling incense and sunglasses on Orchard Street
Boatloads of bootleg Sean John

And I’ll dream you up in this vast, dark bed
Believe I loved you for each hair upon the back of your neck, and I
Want to kiss you but I can’t
Down on the river by the sugar plant

Earrings
Weighing down the lobe and
Nose a lovely slope and the mouth turned down
Shoulders
Pale and beautiful and
Angle of the throat and
Your sweet sad stare

All of the waves that crash upon the shore
Fruitlessly shushing the world
I pledge allegiance to my displacement
My flag of doubt is unfurled

And I’ll dream you up on a vast, dark coast
Believe I see you walking toward me, arms outstretched like a Ghost, and I
Want to kiss you but I can’t
Down on the river by the sugar plant

tiny irish man, can you please start making music again? it’s just that my soul needs it

We might kiss when we are alone
When nobody’s watching
We might take it home
We might make out when nobody’s there
It’s not that we’re scared
It’s just that it’s delicate

So why do you fill my sorrow
With the words you’ve borrowed
From the only place you’ve known
And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why do you sing with me at all?

We might live like never before
When there’s nothing to give
Well how can we ask for more
We might make love in some sacred place
The look on your face is delicate

So why do you fill my sorrow
With the words you’ve borrowed
From the only place you’ve known
And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why do you sing with me at all?

So why do you fill my sorrow
With the words you’ve borrowed
From the only place you’ve known
And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why do you sing with me at all?

You are so sweet
Dancing to the beat

There’s a meat market down the street
The boys and the girls watch each other eat

You are so sweet, so sweet
Dancing and moving to that beat, that beat

There’s a meat market down the street
The boys and girls watch each other eat
The boys and the girls watch each other eat
When they really just wanna watch each other
Sleep
They want to watch, to watch each other
Sleep, sleep sleep
Sleep
They want to watch, to watch each other
Sleep, sleep, sleep

You are so sweet
You are so sweet

I’m walking through the city
Like a drunk, but not
With my slip showing a little
Like a drunk, but not
And I am one of your people
But the cars don’t stop
And I am one of your people
But the cars don’t stop
And it’s been a long time since before I’ve been touched
Now I’m getting touched all the time
And it’s only a matter of whom
And it’s only a matter of when

An addiction to hands and feet
There’s a meat market down the street
The boys and girls watch each other eat
When they really just wanna watch each other sleep

An addiction to hands and feet
There’s a meat market down the street
The boys and girls watch each other eat
When they really just wanna watch each other sleep

Sleep
They want to watch, to watch each other
Sleep, sleep, sleep
They want to watch, to watch each other
Sleep, sleep, sleep
They want to watch, to watch each other
Sleep, sleep, sleep

You are so sweet
You are so sweet
You are so sweet
You are so sweet

i can’t even articulate why, but 2:27 on in this song gives me life. her voice is so honest. the multitrack vocals just collide so beautifully. i often listen to this bit over and over.

this is the best/worst idea for a music video i have ever seen.

The Exciters: let’s spend the video budget on a trip to the zoo! two birds, one stone

I always loved the subtle Zelda references in this song.

Henry Rollins, preachin’ some important words to all of us young folk. Definitely worth a listen or 30.

Don’t hold yourself like that

cause You’ll hurt your knees
well I kissed your mouth, and back
But that’s all I need
Don’t build your world around
Volcanoes melt you down

And What I am to you is not real
What I am to you, you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I’ll ask for the sea

Don’t throw yourself like that
In front of me
I kissed your mouth, your back
Is that all you need?
Don’t drag my love around
Volcanoes melt me down

What I am to you is not real
What I am to you, you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I’ll ask
What I give to you is just what I’m going through
This is nothing new, no, no just another phase of finding
what I really need is what makes me bleed
But like a new disease, Lord, she’s still too young to treat
Volcanoes melt you down
She’s still too young +what iam to you+you do not need+is not real
I kissed your mouth
You do not need me

Mhmmm. Exactly.
